PEGGY’S WALK (PT #80 Sunshine Hills -North Delta)

Peggy Schindler joined Surrey Trekkers in 1998.

Peggy was a Membership Coordinator with Surrey Trekkers and hosted the “Sunshine Hills” walk box 2004-2014.

As a retired Registered Nurse, Peggy volunteered driving cancer patients to Vancouver General Hospital for treatment. Peggy enjoyed walking around the hospital until they were ready to return home.

Peggy enjoyed walking the Coast-to-Coast Trail in England. The Coast-to-Coast walk is a long-distance footpath between the west and east coasts of Northern England, nominally 306 km in length. This distance is broken into many walks/stages allowing walkers to complete some or all the distance.

Sadly, Peggy Schindler passed in July 2017 from Lung Cancer. “Peggy’s Walk” in Boundary Park, named in her honour takes Surrey Trekkers by her former home.

SHIRLEY’S WALK (PT #139 Nordel – North Delta)

Shirley Stoklossa joined Surrey Trekkers Walking Group in 1995.

Shirley was Trail Master 1999-2000 and worked as Membership Coordinator in 1998.  She hosted the “Nordel” walk box 1999-2013.

Shirley was an avid walker completing several marathons in various locations including Chilliwack and Richmond in the 1990’s when there were clubs in these areas. Shirley had a naturally excellent sense of direction and created several walks.

Shirley showed us how to “walk the world” completing walks in many countries. One impressive walk for Shirley was completing the Thames River walk from source to mouth. This trail follows the river’s path from its source near Kemble in Gloucestershire to the Thames Barrier in southeast London. The journey spans approximately 298 kms. Shirley was born December 20, 1948, and sadly passed February 6, 2019. Shirley Stoklossa created the Surrey Trekkers walk we now refer to as “Shirley’s Walk” in North Delta from Cravings Cafe on 84th avenue down and along Nordel Way.

BRENDA’S WALK (PT #156 Cedar Hills - Bear Creek Park 5km)

Brenda was President of Surrey Trekkers from 2008-2013 and Vice President 2005 – 2007 and 2020-2022, including through Covid years. Brenda was President and Past President of Volkssport Association of BC.

Brenda walked all but three provinces in Canada and many US States. In addition, Brenda walked internationally in several countries.

Brenda loved reaching out and supporting the needs of others. She volunteered with many groups including the City of Surrey, Arthritis Society of BC, and other organizations. Brenda gave so much of her time supporting Surrey Trekkers and Volkssporting everywhere.

Brenda Dufield was born November 25, 1944, and sadly passed away on January 19, 2026. The 5 km walk through Bear Creek Park in Surrey developed by Brenda Dudfield for Surrey Trekkers will now be called Brenda’s Walk.

ROY’S WALK (PT # 322 Mundy Park–Coquitlam)

Thomas Roy Anderson joined Surrey Trekkers in 2002.

Roy, (as he preferred to be called) was walk host for the Rocky Point walks as well as for the Coquitlam walks and maintained the walk boxes for both locations from 2014-2018. Members walking with Roy never needed a map as he knew the routes through Mundy Park so well.

Roy walked many long-distance walks including from Gold River to Tahsis, a grueling 66 km’s.

Thomas Roy Anderson was born on September 1, 1941, and sadly passed December 24, 2025. The Surrey Trekkers 10 km walk through Mundy Park in Coquitlam will now be called Roy’s Walk.
