Benefits
The motto of Volkssporters is Fun, Fitness and Friendship. We have all heard that people of any age need to be active physically in order to enjoy life and to have a long life. Few people though have understood that fitness is more important than many other factors people often worry about. Studies have proven that a person’s chances of a longer life increase if exercise is a regular part of your life style.
Volkssporting provides an excellent way to meet many of your exercise requirements. It provides it in a fun, friendly and non-competitive environment. Check out the following links to learn more about the benefits of walking with the Surrey Trekkers Volkssport Club.
Fun
The fun goes far beyond the walking itself. Much of the fun is in the adventure of walking in new areas around the province and particularly in the Lower Mainland. If you are a traveler, you can enjoy walking adventures in over twenty countries around the world. There is no better way to see and enjoy the many diversified aspects of our region than spending a couple of hours walking through them.
Often there are "after walk" activities such as spontaneous group lunches with your new friends at the nearest pub. Or it might be a potluck picnic in a park or at a beach. It might be the poolside barbecue party that the club has sponsored for several years. A Xmas Lights walk followed by a little "cheer" and potluck dinner adds to the festive season.
Fitness
The World Health Organization (WHO) says walking is an ideal exercise because it doesn’t require any special skills or equipment and it's appropriate for people of all ages. Health organizations, including the WHO, have long touted the benefits of regular physical activity such as walking: controlling weight; strengthening bones, muscles and joints; and promoting psychological well-being.
Friendship
When you walk with the Surrey Trekkers, you will have the opportunity of meeting new people who share the common objectives of having fun while improving their fitness. The social contact available by walking with our club is a significantly beneficial part of our lives.
The diversity of our membership, in age, fitness and interests, will provide new members with opportunities to make new friends. Walkers will not walk alone or be left alone on the trail unless that walker is experienced and has chosen to do so.
